Josef Dettlinger, Marienaltar: Detail, the Adoration of the Magi

Though produced in 1895 the work uses an archaizing style. As in Renaissance and later works, one of the Magi is portrayed as an African. He has a crown, but the mage on the left is doffing a knit cap and the one kneeling has no head covering at all.
